Most people prefer easy solutions to fit their way of life and not the other way around. Take for example, Dads. It is not often you see him caring for his skin besides shaving. Having said that-let’s not be quick to assume that a man’s skin requires less attention because of his laid back attitude and masculine physique. Men have a different hormonal make-up compared to women, such as producing more sebum, having thicker skin, and having more sensitive skin.

In short, a man’s skin is quite different from a woman’s because men have an intense shaving regimen, making their skin more sensitive. Alcohol-based aftershaves strip away the skin of natural moisture; therefore, the skin has to produce more oil to replenish the moisture, thus causing more blemishes and enlarged pores.

When addressing a man’s skin, below are a few pointers of what you need to know and consider when planning a skincare regime.

Exercising is rewarding for your body and health but there are pros and cons when it comes to your skin. For men who frequents the gym often with the intention to build bulky muscles, the rapid weight loss and weight gain can cause stretch marks. Furthermore, the sweat that accumulates during while working out is a common cause of bacne and outbreak on your face due to the spread of the bacteria.

Work

For men working indoors, their skin is prone to suffering from extreme dehydration due to long hours spent in front of a screen, under the air-conditioner, or fatigue from work in general. In addition, he is more likely to have vitamin D deficiency.

On the other hand, men who work outdoors stand to benefit from the Vitamin D intake, but inadequate or inconsistent sun protection efforts can cause premature aging.

Stress

Being tied down by work and or to-do lists are societal norms for many. Living in a stressful and fast-paced life like Singapore, the demand to stay relevant in the workplace is high. As a result, many have anxiety issues which can lead to other problems such as hormonal imbalance, one of the vicious culprits behind the increased possibility of premature aging, wrinkles, and even more skin woes.

Lifestyle

Most men need to shave whether he has a full stubble or few strands of facial hair. Some men barely give the shaving process a thought, but for others, it can be kind of stressful, especially those with sensitive skin. Haphazard shaving will only harm your skin more by making it more sensitive and irritated, and looking more papery and thin.

For men without any male skincare knowledge, driving into an unfamiliar domain can be unnerving. Thankfully, there are always sources online and recommendations from peers or experts. Looking your best isn’t really hard when you have the right tools and a proper regime.
